We have been greatly inspired by a number of past and present seafarers who have kindly shared their thoughts, memories and experiences with us. Our sincerest thanks to:-
Gillian Angrave
Katrina Beams
Diana Borcherds (nee French)
Captain Barbara Campbell (nee Sampeys)
Marnie Ross
Captain Ade Puspitaloka
Captain Louise Sara
In addition, we’ve been hugely helped by:
Jackie Burns, P&O Ferries
Nicole de Cotter, P&O Maritime Logistics
Catherine Drummond Herdman, Megginch Castle
Terry Lilley, Wellington Trust
Dr. Jo Stanley
Although not a seafarer herself, Dr. Jo Stanley is the unparalleled expert on the subject. Her brilliantly researched book “Cabin Boys to Captains - 250 Years of Women at Sea” is the inspiration for this exhibition. (Dr. Jo Stanley pictured opposite, with Captain Barbara Campbell, in 2016 at "Cabin Boys to Captains" book launch on board GLENLEE.)
It would be mad not to mention that this exhibition has been an all-female production!
The exhibition has been written and researched by Senior Curator, Susie Cox and designed and produced by Digital Curator, Beth Ellis - to whom I owe my heartfelt thanks.
