STRATHAIRD at sea
In: Selected Images; Part of our P&O in Pictures gallery
Date:
After 1947
Medium:
Black & White Negative
Description:
STRATHAIRD (1932) had compact boilers which obviated the need for additional funnels. However, in order to counteract the misheld public perception that single funnelled ships were less powerful dummy first and third funnels had to be added. These were removed in the 1947 refit to increase the deck space for passengers.
