You could travel by sea with P&O to the far reaches of the Empire to India, Australia and the Far East.

The P&O fleet comprised 60 steamships and 52 tenders and tugs and carried the country's mail and with it precious cargos of silk, gold cotton and soya beans - then the latest new trade to Europe.

P&O ships travelled over 3 million nautical miles in the year and took with them First and Second Class passengers, émigrés and, in the summer season, 'tourists' in the Company's 'new business of touring'.
