Message in a Bottle
1/22/2013 1:36:34 PMA Message in a Bottle, dropped into the sea more than 70 years ago from P&Os STRATHNAVER, traces the relatives of the sender to Australia!
The bottle was found on a beach in New Zealand by Geoff Flood in November 2012, but had been set adrift in 1936. Inside was a note, dated March 17, which said: "At sea. Would the finder of this bottle kindly forward this note, where found, date, to undermentioned address." Underneath the note was written the name: "H E Hillbrick, 72, Richmond Street, Leederville, Western Australia". This bottle was set adrift on 17th March 1936 from P&Os STRATHNAVER, who sailed on twenty-eight cruises in 1936, twenty-one from UK ports and seven in Australian waters. The information in the note meant the relatives of the sender could be traced to Australia!
